Five fascinating facts about action star Jason Statham

Jason Statham has emerged as one of the most bankable action stars of the last couple of decades. He has starred in a host of action movies and sequels, including the Transporter, Expendables and The Fast and Furious franchise. Here are some facts you may not know about Jason Statham:

1. Jason Statham was born in Derbyshire, England in July 1967

2. Statham was an accomplished diver and was on the Great Britain diving team. He competed at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand however his biggest regret was that he never qualified for the Olympic Games.

3. He appeared in the video for the song Run to the Sun by British pop group Erasure, whose most famous hit was Give a Little Respect.

4. When his big acting break came in the 1998 movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, directed by Guy Ritchie, Statham was selling knockoff jewelry and perfume in London. He had already done some modelling work by this stage which is where Ritchie came across him. His demeanour left enough of an impression on Ritchie that he wrote the part of Bacon with Statham in mind.

5. Statham does many of his stunts on his moves, citing Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan as inspirations. Although, that dedication to his craft almost proved fatal during the filming of Expendables 3. Statham was driving a large truck when the brakes failed and he crashed in the Black Sea. However, drawing on all his diving and swimming expertise, he was able to pull off a dramatic underwater escape.
